Requirements can differ based on the year a student began high school. Please check with your school counselor about specific requirements for you, and also review the requirements for graduating "college and career ready."
Credits
To graduate, high school students must earn a minimum of 21 credits
- English - 4 credits
(Courses are sequential. Students must complete English I before enrolling in English II and English II before enrolling in English III or IV)
- Mathematics - 4 credits
* Algebra I (must be taken before enrolling in Algebra II)
* Geometry
* Algebra II
* Additional math course (required for students who entered 9th grade in 2015 or later)
- Science - 3 credits
* Biology
* Second lab science (for students entering 9th grade in 2017 or later, chemistry in 10th grade)
* Third lab science (for students entering 9th grade in 2017 or later, physics in 11th grade)
- Social studies - 3 credits
* U.S. history
* American government
* Modern world history
- Technology education - 1 credit
- Fine arts - 1 credit
- Physical education - 1/2 credit
- Health - 1/2 credit
For students entering 9th grade in 2015 or later, mandatory CPR training is included in the Health curriculum)
- Other - 2 credits (same language, sequential courses), 2 credits, 4 to 6 credits (meeting CTE program requirements)
* World language or
* Advanced technology education or
* State-approved CTE program
- Electives - 2 credits
Service learning
Graduating students must have completed a minimum of 75 hours of service learning. Students begin service learning projects in middle school, and most will have earned the required 75 hours by the beginning of high school.
Assessments
Algebra
Students who took Algebra I in 2016-17 or later:
Pass PARCC or
Pass PARCC re-test or
Complete Bridge plan
Students who took Algebra I prior to 2016-17:
Participate in the assessment aligned to the course
Biology
Pass Biology HSA or
Complete Biology Bridge Validation or
Meet combined score requirement or
Participate in the Biology HSA in the 2016-17 school year or
Participate in HS MISA in the 2017-2018, 2018-2019, or 2019-2020 school year
Students can meet the Biology requirement with the following combined score options:
- Biology HSA score + Algebra HSA score = 812 or higher
- Biology HSA score + Government HSA score = 794 or higher
- Biology HSA score + Algebra HSA score + Government HSA score = 1206 or higher
English
Students who took English II in 2016-17 or later:
Pass PARCC or
Pass PARCC re-test or

Students who took English II prior to 2016-17:

Government
Students who entered 9th grade in 2013-14 or later:
Pass Government HSA or
Complete Government Bridge Validation or

Students can meet the Government requirement with the following combined score options:
- Government HSA score + Algebra HSA score = 806 or higher
- Government HSA score + Biology HSA score = 794 or higher
- Government HSA score + Algebra HSA score + Biology HSA score = 1206 or higher
